Hurricanes ...

Hurricane Gustav certainly proved to be an interesting hurricane for our state. I just read an article in an area paper that it had actually caused more wind and rain damage across the state than Katrina had done. Of course, the major damage from Katrina came from flooding because the levees didn't hold. There are still areas of our state without power, without sewer systems properly functioning, without adequate supplies of gasoline, etc. Here in Minden, most of our evacuees have headed home, even though some of them might not have returned to good situations. And now we are facing Ike! Sigh.

Reaching beyond ourselves

What joy I find in helping others find opportunities to give themselves away! I truly believe God has called me to this task. As a former social worker, perhaps I am more aware than most of all the many ways that we can reach beyond ourselves in helping a hurting world. Maybe it's also the fact that the Lord has opened my eyes because of mission trips I've been on, service opportunities that I've had, and people he has put in my path. One of my greatest joys is when a young person reaches beyond him/herself and discovers the absolute JOY of helping others! My heart's desire is to encourage others to stretch out their hands for the pure joy of reaching beyond themselves! 1 John 3:16-17

Visit to Little Rock

Tommy and I just spent the weekend in LR with our two married children and their spouses! It's quite a different feeling to be a part of MARRIED life with both children and develop relationships from varied perspectives, not just that of a parent/child. I think I still have some learning curves to master in letting them go!

Passion with a Purpose

I thought it might be a good idea as I begin to blog to explain the title: Passion with a Purpose! Several years ago as I began to think of a title for a speaking ministry that the Lord seemed to have given me, I examined the reasons for sharing what HE lay on my heart. There are MANY passions in my life (my Lord, my husband, my children, young adults, teenage girls, missions, chocolate, etc.) but these passions all seemed to have a specific purpose - to lead others who have been put in my life's journey to a closer walk with HIM! Hence, the title - Passion with a Purpose. What meaning is there to any passion without a specific purpose? Hmmmm...
